An Easy Guide to Getting Around Orange Beach and Gulf Shores

As your partner in paradise, Turquoise Place is always looking to provide advice that helps you enjoy an amazing experience on the Alabama Gulf Coast. We recently asked our followers to share their most pressing questions about the area – and you didn’t disappoint! We got so many great answers that we can’t wait to cover, starting with this great question:

“Are there any taxis, Ubers, or other car services to go to restaurants and attractions?”

We’re glad you asked! Transportation isn’t one of the most fun parts of planning a trip, but it’s extremely important if you aren’t bringing your own car. Some of the most wonderful parts of our area aren’t easily walked to, even from a convenient location like Turquoise Place!

Luckily, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have you covered for car services. There are a variety of ways to get around the area that can help you explore everything with ease!

Taxis in Orange Beach

First, let’s talk Taxis. There are several local taxi services that can easily and affordably transport your group to any destination in our area. Companies like Ms. Mary Taxi Service or A-1 Taxi Service provide 24/7 service to all the local areas and can even make some recommendations of their own.  Coast Cab is another great option that offers easy online scheduling, fast response times and family-friendly service.

Shuttle Service in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach

If you’re traveling with a larger group, you may want to select a shuttle service. Coastal Express Shuttle is a local company that uses multi-passenger vans to transport large and small groups across the area. They even offer pre-set excursions to some of the area’s best acts and entertainment – some with prices that include show tickets and onboard snacks!

Gulf Coast Tours is another great choice that offers a line of comfortable coach buses with great features like onboard Wifi, restroom facilities, and satellite TV.  You can even reserve a luxurious limousine to paint the town in proper style!

Ridesharing in Orange Beach

Uber and Lyft both operate in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, offering easy rideshare options to those who want to explore economically. These types of transportation are extremely convenient, allowing you to request a ride right from your device by downloading the company app. Simply type in your location and desired destination to have a certified driver pick you up in front of your Turquoise Place condo.

Travel Tips for Flying to Orange Beach

I’m a land-locked beach lover stuck in Ohio – so every chance I get – I run to the airport and make the quick flight path to Pensacola, Florida. All to get to my favorite destination: Orange Beach, Alabama. Why? Because I’m two steps from the beach at my favorite spot – Turquoise Place!

Here are a few travel tips:

Turquoise Place in Orange Beach

Why Turquoise Place?

I’m currently planning my next trip – this time with my BFF – and we looked at other destinations – but I knew – I wanted to come back to Orange Beach and Turquoise Place!

Everything I love is in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach! The food, the drinks, the fun – I have all my favorite places I can’t wait to go back to!

There’s always something new!

Every visit, I’ve found someplace new to visit! I discovered the Pink Pony Pub on my last visit – um – yes please! #beachdrinks

Outdoor Pools at Turquoise Place Orange Beach Alabama

Turquoise Place is perfection!

These condos are really a destination in themselves. The beach is right there. There are great places to eat, multiple indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, gym, and more – plus the condos are incredible. The view – the hot tub – it’s just amazing! A quick trip to the grocery and you’re set for the week! And, if you use The Beach Moms exclusive concierge package for Spectrum Resorts guests, then you don’t even have to go to the store.

Another plus? If you do feel the need to venture out – you’re a quick Uber ride from all the best restaurants and attractions.

How do I Get to Orange Beach?

For me – It’s all about “de plane de plane!” I’m not a fan of driving more than 3-4 hours and, unfortunately, that will not get me to a beach! So, I fly! For me, it’s easiest to fly into Pensacola. They have a good selection of affordable flights and they’re always on-time (knock on wood). There’s no direct flights from Cincinnati – but other cities are lucky enough to have direct flights.

While I can’t go direct – it’s typically a quick layover and if I leave in the morning – I’m toes in the sand that afternoon! THAT is a vacation win!

How do I get around Orange Beach?

Rental Car
When I’m going on my own or like this upcoming BFF trip – I’ll rent a car. I have so many favorite restaurants and activities I want to do – a rental car makes it super easy. Plus – my BFF is flying in from Iowa – so we’re timing the flights so we can meet up in Pensacola and jump in the rental car together! GIRLS TRIP!

Uber
Other visits, I meet up with my friend that lives a few hours away – so she drives in. For those trips, I grab an Uber from the Pensacola International Airport to Turquoise Place. It’s a relaxing ride and I chat up with my driver to find a new place that is a must-stop place!

Plus, if you’re mainly just hanging at out at the resort you can always find an Uber to head to the fun can’t-miss adventures like the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo or one of the dolphin cruises.

All in all, traveling to Orange Beach by air is easy and Turquoise Place always helps me make sure that I have sand between my toes as quickly as possible! (Don’t forget to reserve those beach chairs!)

8 Ways to Refocus on Yourself in 2021

As we enter a new year, thoughts turn to resolutions and a focus on our health. It’s easier than ever to keep in shape with fitness apps, watches, and livestream classes. Taking a vacation doesn’t mean you have to put your wellbeing on hold. Turquoise Place in Orange Beach offers the perfect place to refuel, recharge and refocus, and here are eight ways to do just that.

The beach makes a fantastic place to soak up Vitamin D, reduce stress, and get exercise. Fortunately, your Turquoise Place condo is just steps from the Gulf of Mexico. Beach chair and umbrella rentals, available spring through early fall, are available to help you make the most of your beach time. New boardwalks with ramp creates an easier way to transport your gear to the sand, too.

Turquoise Place anticipates re-opening all its swimming pools this spring, including three outdoor pools, a kiddie pool, two indoor pools, and the lazy river. Swimming is an excellent form of exercise. It gets your heart rate up, builds endurance, helps maintain a healthy weight, and tones muscles. It’s a great all-over body workout.

Relax your muscles in our saunas and steam rooms, located on the fourth floor of each tower. Saunas increase circulation, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, flush toxins from the body, and relieve stress. Steam rooms do all of that, plus promote skin health and loosen stiff joints. These amenities will also reopen in spring 2021.

Fitness rooms offer a beautiful view of the Gulf for your workout. Furnished with top-of-the-line Atlantis equipment, you’ll find elliptical machines, treadmills, squat and bench press racks, and free weights. Discover the fitness rooms on the fourth floor of each tower.

Find your Zen with a beach yoga session. Nothing centers your soul quite like a quiet morning of focus and reflection. Schedule a private session on our beaches with Glow Yoga.

Another excellent form of exercise is bicycling. Fortunately, Turquoise Place is just a mile and a half from the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail at Gulf State Park. Rent a bike from Beach Bike Rentals or Infinity Bicycles. Then strike out on the seven trails that make up more than 26 miles of the system. You’ll traverse several ecosystems and see some of the local wildlife, maybe even an alligator.

Sticking to a healthy diet is made simple at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach restaurants that specialize in locally-sourced food. Picnic Beach in Gulf Shores offers vegan and vegetarian options, as well as gluten-free menu items. Top 6 Things We’re Thankful for at Turquoise Place

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that 2020 has been an eventful year. While most of us may feel like we’ve gone through the ringer this year, we realize that there is so much to be thankful for. As we prepare for our reopening to guests on Nov. 22, we’re taking time to reflect on the unique challenges and the year, most especially Hurricane Sally, and what we are most grateful for at Spectrum Resorts and Turquoise Place.

1.  Dedicated Team Members

At Turquoise Place, our team members are the have the best of the best. After the storm passed, we watched our team shine as they willingly accepted new tasks and traded their dress shoes for work boots and hard hats. Their commitment to reopening was reflected in their hard work and determination to welcome you back as soon as possible.

2. Safety of Our Team Members

You never truly know what to expect when a hurricane is coming your way. If you are a local on the Alabama Gulf Coast, you know the basics of storm preparation. However, storms don’t always follow the forecast and that was certainly the case when it came to Hurricane Sally. The hurricane made landfall as a much stronger storm than anticipated and moved slowly over our area causing more damage than was expected. Some team members remained onsite throughout the storm, and we are grateful for their safety and the safety of our guests. Team members rose to the occasion, assisting guests who rode out the storm onsite. After Hurricane Sally, our team quickly adapted to new job requirements. These new tasks came with new hazards while working in a construction zone. We are so grateful for the safety of our team members and those who are working hard to welcome you back to Orange Beach.

3. First Responders, Utility Workers, and Construction Crews

This year has had more than its fair share of challenges, but one thing we can say for sure is that we have an immense level of love and appreciation for our essential workers and first responders. The eyewall of the storm had barely passed when we started to see first responders, utility workers, and construction crews rolling in to assist us and our neighbors. It was a beautiful sight to see and reassuring to know that these workers were prepared and ready to help. Many of these people worked long hours for weeks after the storm to help get businesses up and running. These dedicated workers deserve our sincerest thanks!

4. Compassionate Owners

Our condo owners are the very best you’ll find. Many of the owners personally donated funds to help our displaced team members. We are in awe of their kindness and compassion and are truly blessed to be connected with such thoughtful people.

5. Loyal Guests

Girls playing on Alabama's Beaches

We love to see our loyal guests return each year for their family vacations and nothing is more disappointing than having to postpone those vacations.  As you can imagine, there is nothing that makes us happier than to see our guests rescheduling their vacations after patiently waiting during the COVID beach closures and the recovery of Hurricane Sally. We can’t wait to see you again beginning Nov. 22, when the resort will reopen in all her splendor!

6. White Sandy Beaches

Turquoise Place in Orange Beach

Even as we work to reopen, we are grateful for the beautiful views and tranquility offered by our white-sand beaches. We invite you back to put your toes in the sand this coming spring and summer and continue creating happy memories at Turquoise Place.

There is always something to be thankful for and, at Turquoise Place, we know that it is impossible to include everything on this list. As we move into the holiday season, there won’t be anything we’re more thankful for than our beloved guests returning. We can’t wait to see you!

1. The Hank Williams Museum

If you’re coming from Atlanta, Georgia or the Huntsville/Montgomery, Alabama area, The Hank Williams Museum is a must-see! Born in Butler County, Alabama, Hank Williams is considered to be one of the most influential and successful country stars to ever live. The Hank William Museum pays tribute to this country icon with 6,000 square feet of exhibits that show off his boots, hats, awards, horse saddle, albums, furniture, portraits – and everyone’s favorite – Hank’s 1952 baby blue Cadillac. Not only is visiting the museum a unique experience, but it’s an educational one too. The Hank Williams Museum is a hidden gem you don’t want to miss!

2. Priester’s Pecans

If you’re traveling from the same areas mentioned above, Priester’s Pecans is the yummiest place to stop on your way down Gulf Shores and Orange Beach! Priester’s Pecans boasts an in-house candy factory, ensuring all of their sweet treats are always fresh. If you’ve got a four-legged pal traveling with you, their large dog park is the perfect place for them to stretch their legs. The dog park, however, is not fenced in, so you’ll need to have your pup’s leash ready to go. If you’re traveling with kids, they’ll love Priester’s too. They offer restrooms as well as roadtrip toys, gifts, and of course, candy your children will love! One of the unique things about Priester’s is a viewing window where you can watch them make these delectable treats. Just head up the stairs (an elevator is available), and gaze into the candy kitchen through their massive balcony windows. You might even get a wave from one of the candy chefs!

3. The USS Alabama Battleship Park

For all of the beachgoers coming from Mississippi or Louisiana, The USS Alabama is an unforgettable experience for the entire family! This massive ship helped win World War II in the north Atlantic and the Pacific. It was home to 2,500 brave soldiers during the war but now rests in quiet Mobile Bay. For a small fee, you can tour the boat, learning what life was like for the navy men that called it home. Explore the sleeping quarters, eating area, medical offices and so much more aboard this fascinating boat. If you’ve got time to spare, check out the submarine located on the museum grounds. You’ll see what it was like to share that small space with several people, learn about how submarines were used during the war, and experience what it was like to live underwater for many months at a time. With such a broad array of things to do at The USS Alabama, this museum is perfect for any age!

4. The Mobile Carnival Museum
